4- Transmitting on the repeater
Once the repeater is chosen and the radio is configured, transmitting using the repeater is essentially the same as transmitting without using a repeater.
Transmitting over licensed/amateur bands without a license or without respecting the terms of your license is illegal and can lead to fines of up to $5000 and up to a year of prison in Canada.1
If you are outside of Canada, following this guide may be illegal. Always review and follow local laws.
To transmit simply press the transmit (PTT) button while speaking into the microphone. Let go of the transmit button to go back into receive mode2.
For more detailed recommendations on repeater operation, I recommend Radio Amateurs of Canada's guide on the matter
As a reminder, you MUST identify your call sign at the beginning of transmission and at least every 30 minutes after that3.
